La Clinica de la Esperanza has been operational since 1993 and was expanded in 2001 to be a primary care clinic using the Nurse Practitioner model of care. A strong commitment to medical education, which is a significant part of La Clinica's tradition, continues with family practice, pediatric and internal medicine rotations and clinical rotations for medical, nursing and physical therapy students. Iowa Health - Des Moines provides funding and administrative support for the clinic and Des Moines University and Osteopathic Medical College provides the physical clinic facility.
