Proteus Migrant Health Project

Executive Director

Terry Meek is the Executive Director of Proteus, Inc., the BPHC Migrant Health grantee in the state of Iowa.  She also administers the Workforce Investment Act , and National Farmworker Jobs Program in addition to other service programs for Latino populations.  She has been in her current position since 1983, and with the agency since its inception in 1979.

 

Ms. Meek represents Proteus as a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers and the Iowa/Nebraska Primary Care Association.  She has also served on the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Program Executive Committee for multiple years, and served as President for a two-year term.  She serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Central Workforce Alliance, as regional alliance of Midwestern grantees that work with Texas-based farmworker populations.  In addition, she is a member of the Association of Iowa Workforce Partners, a partnership of WIA One-Stop Center partner organizations.  She also belongs to the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals.

 

Terry is an Iowan by birth, holds a B.A. from the University of Iowa with majors in Spanish, Education, and Social Work.  Prior to entering her current field of non-profit management, she was a junior/senior high school teacher, childcare provider, and a homemaker/health aide.  She lived in Mexico City, Mexico for five years prior to entering college.  In her private life she enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren, raising miniature schnauzers, and operating a dog grooming business.  She lives with her husband and seven dogs on an acreage in Carlisle, just south of Des Moines, Iowa.

 

Clinical Director

Robert A. Witt joined Proteus Migrant Health Project in January 2004.  He completed his PA studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and has BS in Psychology from St. Louis University.  Prior to joining Proteus he worked at the McFarland Clinic in Family Practice in Marshalltown from 1997 through 2003.  He has also worked at family practice clinics in Ottumwa and Allison, Iowa.

 

Mr. Witt is affiliated with the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Iowa Physician Assistant Society, and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
