Dr. Richard Brown, Ph.D., FACHE, joined Charles Drew Health Center, (CDHC) in July 2001. Before joining CDHC Dr. Brown served as the Chief of the Bureau of Special Health Care Needs within the Division of Maternal, Child and Family Health at the Missouri Department of Health in Jefferson City, Missouri. Dr. Brown has more than 15 years of administrative experience in a variety of health service organizations and ten years experience teaching healthcare management at the university level. He has served in the management and leadership positions of Assistant Administrator/COO of an acute care hospital, Administrator of a rural ambulatory health care center, Administrator of home health agency, and Chief Operating Officer of an urban ambulatory healthcare facility that operates a health maintenance organization.
Additionally, Dr. Brown served as Assistant Professor at two universities. He has coordinated clinical internships for healthcare management students and taught courses on “Healthcare Management Theory and Practice,” “Organization and Administration of Healthcare Facilities,” “Public and Community Health,” “Policy and Politics,” “Long Term Care,” and “Professional Development.”
Dr. Brown serves on the national boards of The Institute for Diversity and Health Management and the National Association of Health Services Executives. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has published a book chapter on long term care and articles on health services administration.
Dr. Brown has a Bachelors degree in Sociology from Missouri University, a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration from St. Louis University, and earned his doctorate in Adult and Continuing Education from Florida State University.
